Introduction

Laura Nijstad is a hospital pharmacist and clinical pharmacologist, currently working at the Clinical Pharmacy department of the Erasmus MC and Sophia Children’s hospital. She is involved in pediatric care, medication safety and computerized clinical decision support.

Education and career

After graduating as a pharmacist in 2016, Laura started her career in hospital pharmacy at University Medical Center Utrecht, where she was accepted into the hospital pharmacy residency program, in combination with a PhD research project. After completing her residency in 2020, she continued with her PhD research project at the Department of Clinical Pharmacy in close collaboration with the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology, resulting in the thesis ‘Pharmacological dose optimization in children with cancer’ in 2022. During the hospital pharmacy residency and PhD research, she also trained as a clinical pharmacologist. Since 2022 Laura works as a hospital pharmacist and clinical pharmacologist in the Erasmus MC and Sophia Children’s hospital.

  • Supervision of various thesis projects of MSc. Pharmacy and Medical students.
  • Different educational activities for the following groups: residents, nurses, medical students, pharmacy technicians, clinical pharmacists.
